Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
*****Supplies are listed in the supply list and as a pdf in the classroom*****

Let's learn about the science of ice cream and make a sweet treat too!
The kids will learn about freezing point depressions and how salt makes ice colder. They will also learn about emulsions and why air is important in making ice cream. I'll include demonstrations of air and its effect on cream as well as demonstrating making an emulsion.
The kids will make their own ice cream in a bag following my directions. Once the ice cream is made we will have an ice cream party and chat while we eat our homemade ice cream.
******Supplies are listed in the supply list and as a pdf in the classroom.****** There is a worksheet in the classroom that can be printed for class.
ALLERGIES: This class uses half and half to make the ice cream

I have used almond milk.

Parental Guidance
We will be using kitchen supplies. Kids made need help with sealing the plastic baggies. The recipe uses half and half, but almond milk may be used. I have also Ripple which is also a plant based milk.
Supply List
1 cup of Half and Half – OR you can use 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 cream. Almond milk may also be used. I have also used another plant based milk, Ripple

 sugar
ice ( 4-6 cups)
1/4 cup rock salt (like Morton's rock salt for ice cream)
Ziploc bags 1-quart size and 1-gallon size (make sure the bags will seal completely so that the salty ice water does not get into the ice cream bag)
towel
