In this interactive scholarship essay writing course, students will learn essential skills to create powerful, winning scholarship essays that stand out. We’ll cover a range of topics including brainstorming compelling essay ideas, structuring essays effectively, showcasing personal strengths and achievements, and using storytelling techniques to create an emotional impact. The course is structured into a series of lessons that build from brainstorming to drafting and editing, with each session focused on specific writing strategies. Students will engage in hands-on activities, guided discussions, and receive individualized feedback on their work. My teaching style is supportive and engaging, with a mix of direct instruction, interactive learning, slides, and video examples of successful essays. Students will have ample opportunities to ask questions, participate in group discussions, and receive one-on-one guidance. This course is designed to make scholarship writing accessible, fun, and truly rewarding, helping each student to build confidence in their writing and achieve scholarship success!

Understanding Scholarship Essays & Finding Your Story
In this introductory session, students will learn what makes scholarship essays unique and why personal stories are so powerful. We’ll explore key themes scholarship committees value, then dive into brainstorming activities to help students uncover their unique strengths, experiences, and goals. By the end of the lesson, each student will have identified a personal story they can use as the foundation for their essay.

Structuring Your Story
This lesson focuses on organizing ideas into a clear and compelling essay structure. Students will learn how to create engaging introductions, cohesive body sections, and memorable conclusions. We’ll analyze examples of successful essays, highlighting effective techniques, and practice outlining to ensure each student has a strong foundation for their writing.

Writing a Strong Introduction and Body
Here, we’ll dive into writing techniques that bring stories to life, with an emphasis on crafting captivating introductions and detailed, expressive body paragraphs. Students will learn how to connect their experiences to their goals and values, creating a story that flows. By the end, students will have a strong start to their essays and will gain peer feedback to refine their work.

Developing a Powerful Conclusion and Enhancing Clarity
In this lesson, students will learn to wrap up their essays with impactful conclusions that leave a lasting impression. We’ll discuss clarity, tone, and flow, as students participate in peer feedback activities on their conclusions. This session will help students ensure that their writing resonates with readers and feels polished and cohesive.
