This class is designed to help students understand the dangers of drug misuse including the short term and long term effects on the body and the social and psychological consequences for the user and their loved ones. I hope that a true understanding of the significant negative effects on the body will be a deterrent and enable good decisions later on in life. In short, this course will give them the knowledge that they need to "Say No to Drugs!" My classes are always fun and casual, as this is my teaching style. I encourage free talking and discussion but also create a comfortable environment for the quiet and shy amongst us; you can talk as little or as much as you want! I use conversation, slides and review games to impart the knowledge and encourage questions throughout. You need no prior knowledge to take this course! Please message me if you have any questions! The general structure of the sessions will be: 2.5 minutes introductions/icebreaking/initial questions/describing session objectives 35 minutes covering main topics as seen below (questions will be taken throughout) 2.5 minutes learners describing what they learnt for the day to ensure clarity The first session will cover: 1) Where do drugs come from? (plants versus synthetic) 2) Tobacco, Nicotine 3) Marijuana, E-cigs, other We will look at the origins of the drugs, short term effects, long term effects, social effects The second session will cover 1) Cocaine 2) LSD 3) Methamphetamines We will look at the origins of the drugs, short term effects, long term effects, social effects The third session will cover 1) Alcohol 2) Psychiatric Drugs that are misused We will look at the origins of the drugs, short term effects, long term effects, social effects The fourth session will cover 1) Opioids (Morphine, Fentanyl) 2)Science of addiction, withdrawal 3) Science of rehab and relapse 4) Social effects of drugs- personal, family, professional life If you want to understand why drug misuse is so bad, this course is for you!

This class is about helping children understand what drugs are and the effects that they have on the organs. I always create a comfortable learning environment in which children become interested in the knowledge being imparted. I expect that through this class they will come to an understanding of why drug misuse is so detrimental not because someone told them so but because they will comprehend the actual effect of the drug on the body. There will be a clear path from the biological effects that leads them to understand the negative social and psychological effects that can also ensue. This class will therefore encourage good decisions to say no to drugs by giving them foundational scientific knowledge. All content will be taught in an age-appropriate manner and I do not foresee anything that would have negative effects.

In my experience as a Family Doctor, some of the wisest children are those that are equipped with knowledge. I often discuss with my teenage patients that they shouldn't just say no to drugs only because their parents say to but because if they really understood what the drugs did to their organs they would gladly say no! We often go through the science of the drugs and effects on the body and they then see for themselves and are convinced enough to Say No!
