The recorder is a perfect starting instrument for a child, as it is very easy to play compared to other instruments. A very good sounding plastic recorder can also be purchased off of Amazon for as little as $6 (vs other instruments that start at several hundred dollars). It is also quite rewarding for children, as they can make a sound on it right away and quickly start playing simple but enjoyable songs.
