課堂經歷
This class is part 3 of a series. Parts 1 & 2 are prerequisite. No exceptions. You need to have a microbit and the Yahboom WOM Sensor Kit (which you purchased for the Part 2 kit) Now that you've used the Yahboom sensors and servos, let's combine them to make interesting robots. And we've seen how challenging it is to build the robotic structure, so we will focus how to build sturdy, balanced structures and using axles and levers to add movement as required. In this class we will be using the Yahboom WOM Sensor Kit's sensors, servos and building pieces and instructions to build robots. Then we will go through a design review process cycle to enhance the robots to fit our requirements. The process will include defining the problem, brainstorming, prototyping and testing. Week 1: Build and program a lamp where you can control the light color Week 2: Design review and Redesign table lamp Week 3: Build and design "running box" that jumps back when it senses something close Week 4: Design review and Redesign the running box
學習目標

I teach coding classes using Scratch and micro:bit robotics on OutSchool. I truly believe that Scratch is the best coding platform for kids. And micro:bit is by far the best "physical computing" device for learning robotics! I love the excitement on students' faces when they have that "A-ha" moment and have learned something new that they can use.
I want kids to see themselves as creators of technology, not just consumers of tech. My classes are project-based -- I want the students to make something that they care about. My classes are fun and engaging.
I teach 2 types of classes: multiday and ongoing clubs. The multiday classes have more "formal" instruction - i.e. I teach 95% of the time. The multidays start with beginner classes go through a series for advanced beginners (Sorytelling or Game Design), and then end with advanced topics (like Building a 3D Maze). My ongoing clubs are designed so that I teach small "coding nuggets" for half the class, and then allow learners to share projects with the other half. My teaching is a smaller part of the class, and is less linear: kids can join or leave any time.
I am a software engineer who is a lifelong learner. I've been teaching coding professionally for over 8 years -- summer camps, afterschool and homeschool programs, and at the college level, at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I have a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a MS in Engineering from CU Boulder, where my practicum project was focused on curriculum and software to engage girls in coding.
I am very active outdoors, and especially love to mountain bike and ski.
