This course will be an interactive exploration of rhythm. Learners will demonstrate rhythm with body percussion and optional instruments. Day 1 - After introductions, learners will learn a song that defines beat and rhythm, playing beat or rhythm during the appropriate part of the song. Then a game of “Move and Freeze” where learners will move when the teacher plays notes and freeze when the teacher "plays" rests. Next, we will explore rhythm in rhymes or songs. Learners will play rhythms with quarter notes and eighth notes using both iconic and traditional notation. Learners can use percussion instruments that they have at home to play rhythm throughout the course. Activity sheets will be uploaded to the classroom closer to the start date. Learners will need help cutting apart the sheets for each week.
