課堂經歷
**NOTE: PLEASE CONTACT TEACHER IF YOU NEED AN ALTERNATE CLASS TIME! More times available than listed.** This class is designed to be a private, one-on-one weekly class to tackle social awareness, social language, social interaction, peer interaction, talking to people in the community, etc. Perhaps there's a situation or event coming up that you want to prepare for, or a question about communication that wasn't outright taught to you, but everyone else seems to know about it. The teacher also has an extensive library of pre-written classes on social skills/awareness/communication that can be used for each class. This class can be used as a stepping stone to the group class "Real Talk: Advanced Conversational Skills for Teens", or as a private version of that class. Topics could/will include: -"How do I connect/build rapport with my classmates?" -"My parents want me to answer the phones at their business during the summer, but like... phones? I only message people! How do I have a phone conversation?" -"I have an upcoming interview for an internship, and I need to practice my interviewing skills." -"I can start a conversation, but I don't know how to keep it going." -"I really want to talk to this group of girls at dance class, but I never know if it's the right time, or if I'm interrupting." -"How do I meet other people? I want to find people who like what I like." -"I'm about to take a flight by myself, and I'm not sure who to ask for help before, during, and after my flight, and what to ask them or how to ask." -"My teacher says I say, "Um..." too much when I give presentations, and I just need to practice!" -"Someone told me I smell and I don't really understand why everyone's so hung up on that... does it really matter?" -"My parents are finally going to let me use social media, but they're worried I don't know how to keep private info private, and that I might say something wrong." -"I'm honest with people and then they hate me - what am I doing wrong? You shouldn't lie, so I don't get it." My teaching style is warm, empathetic, nurturing, and fun. I center my teaching in real-world situations and expectations. There is no required experience or background knowledge required for this class. All learning styles and abilities are welcome. Both neurotypical and neurodiverse (and everything in between!) learners are welcome. All gender expressions (binary, nonbinary, fluid, etc.) are respected.
學習目標
Learners will build their "communication toolbox" of skills to help them tackle various real-world situations. Practice makes perfect, right? Class topics will be very similar to or the same as the multi-learner Teen class ("Real Talk: Advanced Conversational Skills for Teens"), but with more privacy for learners who prefer to learn on their own.

If parents have any questions about particulars, please feel free to message the teacher.

Suzanne holds an M.A. in Education - Speech-Language Pathology, and a B.A. in Linguistics (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Campuswide Honors Program, Linguistics Honors Program), with an emphasis in Sociolinguistics and a secondary emphasis in Historical Linguistics. Her Honors thesis, "'Like', 'go', and 'all' in the speech of Southern California youth," (1996) reflected her desire to understand how language is actually used. In high school, she was on drill/dance team and in theatre, belonged to a slew of clubs, played in two string ensembles, was an award-winning creative writer, and was a National Merit Commended Scholar.
She is a speech-language pathologist, an educator, and a parent of three kids (two teens, one elementary-aged) with various special learning and health needs. She is also a twice-exceptional/NAT individual.
She has experience (as a professional, a parent, or a volunteer) across the full spectrum of education, including public school, private school (secular, Christian, International Baccalaureate), homeschool, homeschool co-op, online school, de-schooling, mainstream education, special education, special day class, Deaf/HOH schools, and day care. She is familiar with a variety of curricula and has also developed her own curricula. She has approximately 20 years of experience as speech-language pathologist, and has been volunteering in schools since she was a fifth grader (more years ago than she'll admit). She has dedicated her life to lifting children up and supporting their educational and socio-emotional needs.
In her spare time - when she has any - she is a performer (dance production, modeling, on-screen acting), takes voice lessons, manages her daughter's acting career, reads voraciously, plays multiple instruments, and writes.
