課堂經歷
POPULAR CLASS, NOW IN SELF-PACED FORMAT! This class is introduction to bettering your social interaction skills for improved/more positive interactions with peers and adults. Learners will discover what it means to be "in the zone", look at examples, and analyze real-life situations. We'll then delve into looking for social cues, starting conversations with others, and conversational techniques that add communicative agility in social situations. By the end of the class, learners will understand what "the zone" is, and how "the zone" helps them find balance in their social interactions, which improves their chances of making connections with others while staying true to themselves. Abridged syllabus: Videos 1-2: "Am I In The Zone?" Level 1. This is the introduction to social awareness and why it's important for making connections with others. -What is "the zone"? -Using "the zone" to build connections with peers -Finding friends Videos 3-6: "Am I In The Zone?" Level 2. These videos cover topics such as "should I say it", asking questions vs. asking too many questions, finding kids to talk to, choosing a topic, segues, and building and maintaining rapport. Learners can proceed through the videos at their own pace. Learners can post questions/comments in the classroom or private message me - in fact, it's encouraged! Posting in the classroom encourages peer-to-peer interaction with other learners, while I'll also be available to provide feedback or answer questions in the classroom or via Outschool's message system. My teaching style is animated, engaged, real, empathetic, and warm. Because learners excel in different ways, multiple modalities are used: text, photos, line drawings, spoken language, and gestures. All learners welcome - neurotypical, neurodiverse, all gender expressions, religious/secular. I am a twice-exceptional individual, as well!
學習目標
Learners will understand the concept othe "zone" of socially expected behaviors.
Learners will learn how to recognize positive/neutral/negative responses to being in or out of the "zone".

I've been an Outschool parent since 2019, and started teaching on Outschool in early 2020. In addition, I am a speech-language pathologist with an M.A. in Education (Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology) and a B.A. in Linguistics (cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Campuside Honors Program, Linguistics Honors Program, Regents Scholar), with an emphasis in Sociolinguistics and Applied Linguistics (in other words, how people use language socially, in interactions, and in popular culture). I have worked with students from one end of the autistic spectrum to the other, as well as non-ASD students who have pragmatic language issues and social language difficulties. I have been in practice as a speech-language pathologist since 2003, and have owned my own private practice since 2006. I have hundreds of continuing education hours in topics related to speech-language pathology, social language, reading, dyslexia, language disorders, stuttering, traumatic brain injury, psychology, executive functioning, autism, articulation, and phonology, among other areas. I am also twice-exceptional, and the parent of three twice-exceptional kids.
