All assessment is informal. I access students' understanding by asking questions, encouraging participation, giving examples, using repetition, and making sure to address any challenges I am seeing in a subtle, encouraging way. Students are welcome to ask questions at any time. They are also welcome to message me with specific questions related to their learning style or challenge.我們無法翻譯此文,請刷新頁面並再試一次。

*Please note* This is the exact same class as my Summer Camp Reading class. It just meets 4 weeks in a row instead of 4 days in a row* Students will learn a variety of reading strategies to help them better understand what they are reading. While reading a shared text out loud, the class will engage in pre-reading, during reading, and post-reading activities. The strategies not only allow a reader to engage and understand a text, they also make reading a lot more enjoyable. Once students know how to use these reading strategies, the strategies will be applicable to any text they are reading. Students will need to be able to follow along in a text aimed at young adults. They will be provided with a copy of the text in class. They will need paper and a pencil/pen. As the class works through the text, students will be asked to share their findings. Time will be provided to ensure students are able to use each strategy. Class at a Glance- Topics and Teachings- reading strategies Class Structure- Minilessons, Reading of Text, and Class Discussion are a part of each class. Teaching Style- I believe in a student-centered classroom where each student's voice, ideas, and questions are valid and encouraged. I also believe in having a structure to assure all learners can learn. Once enrolled, students are sent my class agreements which outline the expectations for our class. These are simple and include things like only one of us will talk at a time and no question is a dumb question. Teacher/Student Interaction- Students are encouraged to participate orally or via chat, however, they feel most comfortable. They can also message me with questions. Prior Knowledge- No prior knowledge is necessary, however, if students would like an introduction to reading strategies and would like to see if my teaching style will work for them, I do offer a one-time class. It is not a prerequisite.

I offer this class because I am passionate about helping children learn and love to read. I spent nine years working with middle and high school students, many of who struggled with reading and writing. For six of those years, I taught at a school for children with dyslexia. I have found reading strategies are hands down the best way to help kids understand what they are reading.
