In this course, students will learn the essential skills to read and write based on the Orton Gillingham method. To begin the course, students will learn the proper sounds for all short vowels and consonants. As the course progresses, students will be introduced to diagraphs (SH, CH, TH, PH, and CK). Students will improve their phonemic awareness as they learn how to break apart words into individual phonemes as well as how to reconstruct the words. Focus for the course will be on CVC words...
I am an associate of the Orton Gillingham Academy for Practitioners and Educators and have a Masters Degree in Literacy from the University of Georgia. Over the past 10 years, I have been teaching and tutoring students in pre-K through 6th grade. Most recently I held the position of Literacy Specialist for a top private elementary school in Atlanta Georgia. I am currently a tutor for students in pre-K through 8th grade. I also have a 3 year old daughter and a 5 year old son. I work with the level of the students in the class to personalize their learning experience.
