Reading comprehension is so important, not only for academic success but also for students to develop a love of reading for their own enjoyment (where they really stretch their vocabulary and see grammar and different writing styles in action). In our weekly ongoing class, we share a text and explore the different skills and strategies we can use to really get to grips with it. Students will practice: predicting what a book or text will be about inference - both from pictures (where used) and text predicting what might happen next based on what has happened so far and inference clues working out unfamiliar words from context clues understanding characters the effects of different punctuation
Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I have 20 years of experience in teaching English in primary schools. Over those years, I have worked regularly with learners (as a class, in groups, and individually) specifically on English reading and writing skills and teaching English online. I'm a great advocate of the belief that the experience of reading is far more than decoding words on a page.
