The course is a five-hour reading comprehension course taught over five consecutive days for students reading at the sixth-grade level. Each session is one hour long and will cover one Great Minds biography, comprehension questions, vocabulary activity, and a writing response activity. Students will improve their reading comprehension by practicing skills of identifying main ideas and details, making inferences, using compare and contrast skills, using summarizing skills, and writing responses to assignments designed to reflect their understanding of specific concepts presented in each biography.
As a reading specialist, I am offering this class to provide students with assistance to improve reading comprehension skills.

The teacher will post the articles used in each session for students to print for class use. The titles of the biographies used include: 1) Albert Einstein, 2) J.K. Rowling, 3) Helen Keller, 4) Martin Luther King, Jr., and 5) Vincent van Gogh.
