AT the initial session, the student will take a 3-5 minute quick assessment to determine exact instructional need.  Lessons will begin with intermediate to advanced phonics instruction critical to decoding unfamiliar words student may find in text.  Students will engage in vocabulary and the use of context.  Reading selections will begin with decodable texts to reinforce reading fluency.  Transition into authentic text, both fiction and non-fiction, will support transition from fluency to comprehension.  Comprehension skills will include literal and inferential skills, prediction, and compare and contrast of literature.  Students will engage in both oral and written responses, the use of visual mapping, and explanation statements to gauge student attainment levels.
