In this one-time class, students will be given an introduction to close reading. Students will learn to read like detectives by using text evidence to make inferences about the characters and events in "The Canary Caper" by Ron Roy. Students will be taught how to identify the characters' feelings, traits, motivation, and/or the story's conflict through a clear teacher model, guided practice, and independent practice, which will incorporate class discussion and instruction around purposeful annotation.
學習目標
Students will be able to use text evidence to make an inference around the characters' feelings, traits, motivation, and/or the story's conflict.

I am a certified New York State teacher who loves teaching students to become better readers, while inspiring them to love reading at the same time! I have my Bachelor's Degree in Childhood and Special Education and my Master's Degree in Literacy. Before choosing to be a stay-at-home mom, I worked in a public school as a second grade teacher, third grade teacher, and reading specialist for kindergarten-fourth grade. In addition to teaching the typical public school curriculum, I have taught students with disabilities and 504 plans, prepared third and fourth grade students for state testing, and taught English Language Learners. Currently, I am an online ESL teacher and a college professor who teaches undergraduate and graduate students how to become excellent teachers and literacy specialists. I hope to see your student in my classroom!
