In this class, students will use materials they find around the house (and have permission to use) to create a one of a kind puppet. Students will build puppets, give them names and get to know them. While the glue and paint is drying, learners will have the opportunity to develop voices and back stories for their puppets as well. If time allows, and puppets are ready for handling, students will have the opportunity to interact with one another using their new puppets. Crafting experience...
Students will be using their creativity and fine motor skills to learn to create their own unique puppet and to give it character.
Puppet materials of your choice! For the body of the puppet, you can use an old sock, a paper bag, a small box, the sleeve of an old long sleeve t-shirt, popsicle stick and paper...you could even just your hand! For decoration: Glue, buttons, strips of fabric, googly eyes, straws, fake flowers, construction paper, paint, markers, yarn, sequins, foil, pieces of cardboard, etc. For table/floor protection: Newspaper, cardboard, craft paper, disposable table cloth, etc., and paper towels (wet and dry) to clean up any messes. If decorating all the way around to make a 3D puppet, an upside down cup, tissue box, or something else that the puppet can sit on top of while drying, might also be a good idea.
