During this session, learners will read short stories or articles in a 1:1 setting. Learners will practice good reading strategies to help improve decoding and comprehension skills. Learners will discuss background knowledge or maybe take a book walk prior to reading. Learners will be encouraged to make predictions, identify text structure, demonstrate understanding of vocabulary, retell the story or main ideas, and more. Learners will also practice decoding strategies for difficult words and improve reading fluency. Topics taught will include but are not limited to: -Identifying Main Idea or Theme -Identifying Text Structure -Making Predictions -Vocabulary -Summarizing -Decoding Strategies (syllabication) -Reading Fluency

Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!評論
