課堂經歷
Our Circle Time class will be filled with fun, learning and Friendship! Our pal Violet will my co-teacher throughout our time together. Our class will involve a lot of fun and engagement! Children are encouraged to sing along and participate as much as they feel comfortable with. The focus of the class will be on the exploring and engaging in the learning and reviewing or basic preschool skills. During each class we will: 1. Sing our welcome song "The More We Get Together!" or "Good Morning!" 2. Read a fun seasonal or thematic story 3. Calendar Time- days of the week, months of the year, shapes, colors and counting (involving some movement). 4. Daily Message- This will be a daily question that I will ask the children to get their little wheels spinning and discussions going. I will be using a variety of teaching tools to help Circle Time come to life. These tools will include: realia (real life items), videos, fun and engaging presentations that are movable and colorful as well as movement if and when appropriate. New learners to the class will feel right at home during their first class since all of the basic skills will be covered and reviewed. We will use many objects and learning tools that all children, no matter if it is their first class or fourth, that they will be familiar with. These tools may include: familiar songs, videos and every day objects. Here is a breakdown of how the weeks will look: (This is an example) *Week of November 1st Focuses- Read Aloud Book: Pete the Cat Falling For Autumn by James Dean, letter Mm recognition (name and sound), high frequency words "I and a," shapes, number recognition 1-3 and counting 1-3 *Week of November 7th Focuses- Read Aloud Book: The Leaf Thief by Alice Heming, letter Aa recognition (name and sound), high frequency word "we," shapes, number recognition 1-5, counting 1-5 and positional words (for example: over, under and behind) *Week of November 14th Focuses- Read Aloud Book: We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger, letter Ss recognition (name and sound), high frequency word "see," shapes, number recognition 1-7 and counting 1-7 , positional words and counting objects *Week of November 21st Focuses- Read Aloud Book: Llama Llama Gives Thanks by Anna Dewdney, Letter Pp recognition (name and sound), high frequency word "the," shapes, number recognition 1-10, counting 1-10, positional words and counting objects Here are the skills that we will be working on during our class times together: 🖍️Colors 🟡Shapes (including number of sides) 🔠Letter names (we will focus on one letter per session/ capital and lowercase) 👂Letter sounds (we will focus on one letter per session) 🔢Numbers recognition 0-10 🔟Counting 1-10 (it will progress depending on how the students are picking it up) 👆Counting objects 📗high frequency words 😃Speaking in complete sentences We will always end our time together with a song and our little goodbye chant that we will do together as a class. 🎶 Here is the chant: This is the way we say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye. This is the way we say goodbye, in class every day We give our friends a big high-five, a big high-five, a big high-five. We give our friends a big high-five, when we say goodbye. 👋Then the kids will give each other high-fives through the screen and say "Good-bye!"
學習目標
Students will learn and review the early preschool concepts in a fun and engaging way. The progression of concepts will depend on the group of students and how they are doing. Since this is a circle time class, the concepts will be reviewed and added upon each class session as described in the class description.
They will also learn key and essential class structural "norms" that will help them in an actual classroom, Sunday school, at a party, at the dinner table etc. These norms will include: being respectful to others, raising their hands, waiting our turn, using their manners (please and thank-you), complimenting and praising each other etc.
This will also include, self regulation. I will teach simple deep breathing "breaths" that can help them their bodies if and when they need it. Here are a couple of the "breaths" that I teach:
1. Big Belly Bear Breath-They place their hands on their diaphragm (which is right above their belly) and take controlled breathes.
2. Calm Clouds- They bring their hands up into the sky and pretend to softly grab a cloud as they breathe in. Then, they will slowly bring the cloud down over them as they slowly breathe out.
The breathing is just something simple, yet affective that they can use in class and outside of class as well.

I have taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade for a combination of 19 years. During all of those years, circle time was always a huge piece of our day. It helped us welcome each other to class, helped to get the day started in a fun way and it was overall just a great time for everyone. Of course, the academic and learning aspect of it is a key factor.
I have used puppets for most of those 19 years. They have always helped my students in every way imaginable throughout our time together.
