In our ongoing class, which occurs twice a week, we will be focusing on various math terms and skills to help develop your child's mathematical understanding. Safety is paramount, and we'll discuss proper handwashing and kitchen safety, singing the ABCs as a fun reminder. We'll use virtual snacks like watermelon, cake, or pizza to explore math terms. We will explore the concept of cardinality and how to connect counting with quantities. We will count objects arranged in various ways to answer "how many?" questions. This will help your children understand the relationship between numbers and quantities. To make our math lessons more enjoyable and relatable, our "virtual snacks" will be divided, added, or subtracted to make sure everyone gets an equal share. Each lesson will be a different food. I will use terms like fruits, vegetables, candy/sugar, dessert, pasta, etc., without referring to them as "healthy" or "unhealthy.” Throughout the class, we will cover a wide range of math topics, including shapes, patterns, lines, graphing, line directionality, counting, sorting into groups, smallest to largest, counting forward and backward, beginning fractions, greater than/less than, equal to, ten frames, and recognizing and writing single-digit numbers from 0 to 20. My teaching style promotes interaction and encourages the students to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. I want to create an inclusive and engaging environment where all children feel valued and appreciated. We will discuss likes and dislikes of food. We will discuss how some people may not like apples, while others do. We may naturally develop into a conversation where the children share stories and experiences of foods. Your child's individual assessment from the first class will play an essential role in guiding our upcoming lessons. I will tailor the content to ensure that each child's unique needs and strengths are addressed, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. Detailed praise will be given for their efforts and accomplishments, building their confidence and encouraging their enthusiasm for learning. I have been a classroom teacher as an intern, a preschool teacher, a teacher's aide, a substitute teacher. I have been a nanny and taught online to children in China before joining Outschool. One of my online students recently asked me, "Why did you want to become a teacher?" This child didn't realize how important this question was to me. I was taken aback because it had been a while since someone asked me WHY. I explained to her that watching someone learn something for the first time, or UNDERSTAND something after attempting to understand it is why I do this. One large goal and part of my classroom management is to allow the students to understand that they should be apart of their learning. I am not only teaching to them, I'm allowing them to be a big part of their education.
I set expectations for myself as a teacher and a person. I want to be accountable for my actions, responsible for my education, to teach with passion detail, and encouragement. My main goal is to display past goals and expectations through achievements. Though we are learning through video, I want to incorporate fine and large motor development opportunities, real-life experiments, and experimental learning. I will provide a loving, respectful, safe, and supportive risk-free environment.
