Learners will be informally assessed on demonstration of basic piano skills. Learners will be formally assessed on identifying notes, symbols and music terms through activity sheets and games.

課堂經歷

This course consists of 6 piano lessons based on a downloadable piano book focusing on the right and left hand middle C position. This course is a continuation of a previous course (Level 1, Part 2). Learners will identify notes on the staff, note names, and note duration as they continue building their music reading skills. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout class. During each class, learners will review previous music terms and songs, learn new songs and skills, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. Learners will be given activity sheets to complete for practice in naming notes.

Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills. Videos of songs and other resources will be posted on the Outschool classroom to assist with practice.

Listed below is an outline of the concepts covered each week:

Week 1 - Middle C Position

Week 2 - Flat sign

Week 3 - C position review

Week 4 - Fermata, Staccato

Week 5 - Review

Week 6 - Review, Learners play a final performance for class

While it is not required, individual playing will be optional throughout this course. Learners may also use their learner page to upload a video of themselves playing for individualized feedback.

In Zoom, please make sure "Original Sound for Musicians" is "On". Otherwise, the piano/keyboard will be suppressed as noise. This setting has to be chosen every time you enter a Zoom meeting.

Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
