課堂經歷

This flexible, one-on-one class structure is designed for beginner to intermediate piano students ages 5-9. This class will teach concepts including, but not limited to, navigating the keyboard, rhythmic fluency, note identification, musical symbols, and musicianship. Students will develop these skills while playing music specifically selected for their learning level. While mastering these music-specific concepts, students will be developing general skills including active listening, critical thinking, fine-motor skills, and self-discipline. Since this is a one-on-one class, the lessons will be tailored to each individual student's learning style, in a relaxed, fun teaching environment. The number of pieces, and the pace at which we work on them, will be determined by what is best for the individual student. No prior knowledge of the instrument is required, but regular practice on a keyboard or piano in the student's home is necessary between each weekly lesson. This class begins in mid-October and roughly follows a typical academic calendar, concluding in mid-December. This class is designed for both new students and for returning students who have completed Fall Term A. Students will have the option to perform in an end-of-class recital sometime in December.

Week 1: Assess student; assign first piece(s)
Week 2: Review first piece(s); introduce technical warm-ups (ex. scales, arpeggios)
Week 3: Begin with technical warm-ups; review first piece(s), fix any note/rhythm issues
Week 4: Technical warm-ups; mid-session assessment of current repertoire, focusing on technique and musicality
Week 5: Technical warm-ups; assign new piece(s) for second half of term
Week 6: Technical warm-ups, review pieces from previous week, fixing any note/rhythm issues
Week 7: Technical warm-ups; review pieces from previous week, focusing on technique and musicality
Week 8: Technical warm-up review and assessment; end of session assessment of all repertoire during "mini-recital"
學習目標
Students will learn rhythm, note identification, musical symbols, musicianship, and how to navigate the keyboard.

Additionally, I am a Collaborative Pianist at Wright State University, where I perform over 50 concerts each year, and I host Classical music radio on the weekends on Discover Classical, which you can listen to online at discoverclassical.org.
