What will be taught: This class is perfect for an emergent reader who is just beginning their reading journey. We will read simple sentences such as "Pop got on the mat". This is a great pre-reading course as well for kids who are still mastering letter sounds. In this ongoing group class, we will focus on phonemic awareness skills in a fun and engaging way. Students will learn basic phonemes. Students will learn various phonemic awareness skills. Students will learn sight words and high-frequency words. Students will learn to recognize words in a sentence.
I received a certificate for IMSE's Phonological Awareness course based on Orton-Gillingham. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. I received my Teacher Certificate in Idaho in 2011, which allowed me to teach Reading/Writing for 7th and 12th grade for 2 years. I received my TESOL certificate and taught ESL for 5 years.
No supplies, but you can bring a pop-it toy for beginner CVC blending if applicable.

Feel free to share any preferences beforehand—whether it's avoiding magic or spooky themes. Some books might feature fight scenes, dinosaurs, or monsters. I'll give you a heads-up a week before introducing a new book, allowing you to review it and ensure it aligns with your child's comfort.
We will use Google slides on a screen share, so you do not need your own account. We will be reading decodable books from Half Pint Kids.
