In this ongoing class, older students are introduced to a phonics and decoding skill. Students will practice that skill for a few moments before applying the skill by reading sentences that are age-appropriate and matching them to images to show comprehension. This class requires repetition in order to master the skill so I hope to see you back again each week for a quick refresher! Each week we will focus on a new skill. For example: Week of July 6 - Pre Test Week of July 13 - Vowels Week of July 20 - Root words, Prefixes and Suffixes Week of July 27 - Combinations Week of August 3- Academic Vocabulary Week of August 10- Word Parts and Word Building Week of August 17- Sentences and Meaning Week of August 24- Spelling Dictation Week of August 31- Post Test We will repeat any skills not mastered and move on to other skills as students begin to become experts in the skill. We will only focus on Grade level skills so once your feel your child has mastered all of these skills- I will open up another class for the next level of skills they will need to unlock and master ! Class flow/ structure : Welcome Warm-up Skill Focus Skill Practice Check for Understanding Independent Practice Homework will be given after each class
