In this engaging book club, learners will meet twice a week for four weeks to read and discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Lightning Thief! They will be taken on an urban fantasy adventure while examining characters, plot, and humorous allusions to mythology!
In each meeting, learners will discuss the chapters assigned for class. We will spend about four weeks on each book, allowing learners to connect with the characters and dive deeply into the plot. Learners will be challenged to share ideas and make predictions and inferences. Learners will also play a fun interactive Kahoot! game to assess comprehension.

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school . . . again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.其他詳情

Sensitive Content: The Lightning Thief incorporates many figures from Greek mythology into the plot, including gods, goddesses, and monsters. Students may be surprised or offended by the relationship depicted between gods and humans. They may also be disturbed by the description of battles between demigods and monsters. Some students may find aspects of the text conflicting with their religious views.
I will allow time and space for students to reflect on and speak about their reactions to the reading.

As a licensed teacher specializing in Reading, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories can teach readers valuable lessons, make them laugh, and see things from a different perspective, or take them somewhere new!
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
