每週 1 小時. Learners will write a paragraph outside of class each week. They will start writing during class time but will complete their work independently. Professional writers love to get together and share their work with each other and support each other's growth. Kids can do the same in this Paragraph of the Week Club designed just for them. Get lots of practice and plenty of specific, constructive feedback with this weekly writing class. WHAT TO EXPECT EACH WEEK Each lesson starts with a quick icebreaker, so learners can get to know each other a little and feel more comfortable speaking up during academic discussions. Lessons will include direct instruction, guided practice, and lively discussions. Learners will have the opportunity to share their writing, but sharing is always optional. Homework will be assigned to give learners a chance to practice and apply their new skills. Here is a breakdown of the upcoming lessons: Week of June 9 Focus Skill: Topic Sentences Week of June 16 Focus Skill: Supporting Evidence Week of June 23 Focus Skill: Transitions and Explanations Week of June 30 Hook Your Reader Week July 7 Write Clincher Conclusions Week of July 14 Writing Persuasive Paragraphs Week of July 21 Writing Informative Paragraphs Week of July 28 Process-Analysis Writing: Write a "How-to" Paragraph Week of Aug. 4 No class Week of Aug. 11 Write a Book or Movie Review Paragraph Week of Aug. 17 Write a Narrative Paragraph Week of Aug. 25 Write a Problem/Solution Paragraph Week of Sept. 1 Write a Thank You Note Week of Sept. 8 Respond to a Given Writing Prompt Week of Sept. 15 Write a Definition Paragraph Week of Sept. 22 Write a Compare and Contrast Paragraph Week of Sept. 29 Write a Cause and Effect Paragraph But what will we write about? I have been an English teacher since 1997, and I have experience with elementary school, middle school, dual enrollment, and college, and currently I homeschool my lovely children, who are 12 and 14 years old. I have taught mainstream, remedial, and GATE (gifted and talented) classes.
I have bachelor's and master's degrees in English from California State Universities.
I believe that everyone can learn and that how much you learn often depends much on the amount of effort you're willing to invest. To that end, I try to encourage and motivate my students to have a can-do attitude and a growth mindset. In part, that means that both the learner and the instructor may have to look for outside-the-box ways to approach a topic in order to make it more accessible.
For fun, I enjoy being outdoors. I love nature, wildlife, and hiking. I also enjoy spending time at home reading and sewing. Every so often I take a class in something I've never done before just to remind myself what it feels like to be new to a topic. This helps me feel compassion for my learners who are not yet experts in my content area, and it keeps me humble and helps me think of creative ways to reach my learners.評論
