Students will learn what a modified mosaic is as they create one based on the story they read or listened to prior to class, "I Ain't Gonna No More" by Karen Beaumont. Students will also learn how to extend books by finding fun activities that go along with the story, such as art, dance, cooking, etc. We will begin class by discussing the book and any vocabulary, discussing art terms, and explaining the rules of our dice game. This will be an Active Learning Structured Class, and all students will be given the opportunity to roll the dice, and discuss their work, as well as answer and ask questions about the story. I will teach as a Student Centered "director" allowing students to drive our questions and determine the length of each activity. I use this style when I teach both in person and virtually, because it keeps my students engaged and interested. Students will interact with me and other students throughout the entire lesson as we do Q and A sessions, vocabulary sessions, the dice painting activity and other games.

Students will deepen their understanding of literary texts and art by engaging in creative projects that expand upon the themes presented in the stories they read, allowing them to explore the world of the text.Students will gain an understanding of mosaic art, a technique where intricate images are created by assembling tiny pieces of colored glass, stone, etc., known as "tesserae," which are carefully arranged and fixed together to form a design on a surface.
