按語言繪畫：中文1:1 側面學中文側面畫畫！

The purpose of this class is to make learning Chinese more fun by using art!  

In this fun, hands-on 1:1 class, we will discuss a seasonally based topic each week while learning new Chinese words connected to the theme.   Because a new topic will be discussed each week, a student can join or quit anytime as the classes do not build on one another.  For each class, I will teach the word's meaning, its pronunciation, and how to write the word in both pinyin and Chinese characters.  I will be using simplified Chinese characters which are used in mainland China.  Example sentences using the word will also be given.  Because this class is one on one, it can be tailored to fit your learner's needs, such as using simple words for beginners and using more complex vocabulary & sentences for more advanced learners.   Students will have a chance to repeat the new word after me for oral practice.  

This class will be interactive so I will ask the learner questions during class to keep them engaged.  Perhaps they can think of more ways to use the new word!  Learners will then have fun creating a picture connected to the week's topic to make what they learned more memorable.  They can write or paint the word below the picture.  Any art medium can be used: poster paint, acrylic paint, watercolors or another medium of their choice.  (Crayons, colored pencils, and pastels are fine too!)   

I will first show a sample picture for the learner to see an example of what to create and depending on their age, I will either let them draw something on their own or I will guide them along and help them to copy a simple picture with me.  (Learners do not have to copy the picture that I share if they don't want to.)  

Please keep in mind that while art is being used in this class, the focus of the lesson will not be on improving one's technical art skills or on the art of Chinese calligraphy but rather will be employed as a simple and fun way to aid with language learning.

For younger learners, I will be using flashcards/props in this class so if your learner has a toy that is connected to the new word, they can feel free to bring it along!  I want to make it as colorful and fun as possible.  For older learners, I will be encouraging them to speak and share as much as possible in Chinese and look forward to seeing what creative picture they can come up with!  I can't wait to see their creations!

Week One:  Sunny Summer: What's the weather like?  

Week Two:  Summer Garden: Butterflies, ladybugs, bumble bees, & flowers

Week Three:  Staying Cool in Summer: watermelon, lemonade, ice-cream

Week Four:  Summer Beach Day: swimming, ocean, sunglasses, palm trees

Do you see a word above that your learner would like to do but it's for a week that they will not be available?  No worries!  I specialize in 1:1 classes on Outschool for this very reason!  Feel free to let me know if you'd like me to adjust the topic for the week your learner is wanting to join.  It won't be a problem!

I will have new words constantly added for the learner to keep building vocabulary.  If your learner would like to do a topic from a week that has already passed before signing up for this class, just let me know and we can make the adjustment.
