每週 1 小時. Although all the activities are optional, participation in the weekly activities is key to getting the most out of this class. Each week, students will be given a creative drawing or project. Students can also comment on two other projects each week. Learners will be completing activities individually, but there will be optional games and intro videos to connect with their classmates. There will be no assigned grades, but constructive feedback from the instructor will be given on each post from the student. Students can spend as much or as little time on the prompts, projects, and activities as they would like. It is anticipated that they will continue to practice and use the learned techniques even after the class if over. I also encourage students to tell their families what they learn.

課堂經歷

This is the asynchronous, self-paced version of my in-person class, Overcoming Anxiety. The purpose of this class is to be another tool to help students gain a better understanding of what anxiety is and feel empowered to conquer their anxiety. The flex format works well for this class, as it allows students to work at their own pace, providing more time for introspection and understanding their own emotions on their own timetable (I also offer this class in an in-person class format). I encourage learners to teach their families the skills that they learn from this class. Each of the four weeks, we will cover a different topic to learn about anxiety and coping tools to feel better. Weekly topics are centered on evidence-based practices to help children cope with anxiety.

This class is expected to take around 1 hour per week and lasts for 4 weeks, but students can spend more or less time depending on how much time they decide to spend on the activities. All of the activities are optional, so students can work on according to how much time they want/have. The course encourages interaction between the teacher and students through class participation through the creative drawings or artwork and posting a video sharing them on the classroom page, participating in the weekly activities or games with each other, and practicing the tips we learn to conquer our fears.

Each Monday, a new, pre-recorded video will be posted. In each video, I will be doing a lesson about the theme of the week. I will also post a discussion prompt based on the week's theme, the weekly creative drawing, and an optional activity or game for students to connect with each other and with the teacher. Each week, students will be doing a creative drawing based on the weekly theme. If the students don't want to draw, they can do the activity in another creative way (poem, sculpture, song, etc). Students are required to upload a video of their drawing (or other creative piece) each week by the end of the week on Sunday. Learners can complete each activity according to their schedule, but all activities must be done before the next Monday, however, late work is still accepted. Students and the teacher will comment on other drawings about what they liked and differences/similarities to their own drawings.

Week 1: Anxiety in the Brain
On the first Monday, I will introduce myself through a pre-recorded video, and I will encourage each learner to make an introductory video of themselves as well to post on the classroom page. I will share a pre-recorded video explaining what anxiety is, different parts of the brain and their role with anxiety (Hippocampus (Memory Brain), the Pre-Frontal Cortex (Smart Brain), and the Amygdala (Safety Brain), and what happens to them when we feel anxiety. I will also share 3 simple tips to feel better. Students will draw or do another creative project of something they are afraid of. The pre-recorded video will be a review of my other class Anxiety in the Brain and Tips to Deal with it. Students do not need to take my other classes to be able to take this class.

Week 2: Anxiety in the Body
During the second week, I will share a pre-recorded video quickly reviewing what we learned in the first class, then we will talk about where we feel anxiety in our bodies and the effects anxiety has on the body and go over 3 more tips to feel better. Students will be given a coloring page of a boy or girl to print out beforehand to color different parts of their body where they feel anxiety (If the student does not have a printer, they can use a blank sheet of paper and create their own instead) or do another creative way to show where they feel anxiety in their body. We will post these pictures to the classroom page and discuss the similarities and differences.

Week 3: Mindfulness
During the third week, I will post a pre-recorded video going over what we learned in the past two weeks. I will also talk about what mindfulness is, the benefits of mindfulness, and how it can help us with anxiety. We will go over different mindfulness techniques. Students will color a picture or do another creative way of showing every detail of their happy place. Students will comment on each other's projects about mindfulness details they like. I will also post a mindfulness scavenger hunt game that students can play with me, their families, and with other students in the class.

Week 4: Overcoming Anxiety
During the fourth week, I will post a pre-recorded video reviewing the things we learned in the past weeks. I will have different situations of anxiety, and will share what tips could help with those situations and practice telling our brains the true information. Students will draw themself overcoming anxiety and share it on the classroom page. Students will share what they like about each other's art. I will give students a handout the last week of everything we learned, so they can review what they learned when the class is done.

學習目標

Students will understand what anxiety means, what's happening in the brain when we feel anxiety, and empowering tips to be able to conquer anxiety. Students will learn how to use the tools given when they are feeling anxiety.

其他詳情

父母的引導和規範
This class is focused on anxiety, so other students may share uncomfortable experiences about their emotions and anxiety. During the first week we will be sharing things we are afraid of, however, the purpose of this class is to focus on coping techniques for anxiety rather than the anxiety itself, so the projects and discussions will be more focused on the techniques to help anxiety. The class is intended to be a safe space, so students will never be forced or persuaded to share personal experiences, or anything that may make them feel uncomfortable. Additionally, the instructor will work to ensure that no students become uncomfortable because of any content shared by other students. Since this class is not live, the flex design of this class makes the sharing content more limited, so it is easier to filter/monitor for materials that could be sensitive for other students. I worked as a mental health counselor in an elementary school, so I have had many experiences with kids talking about their big and small emotions in group or individual settings. If there is a student who talks about something that could be sensitive, I will validate their emotion, and help guide the discussion or activity to the coping techniques, so the class does not focus on the experience or story.
供應清單
Each week, learners will need a paper and things to color with. If the learner decides to do a different form of art (sculpture, poem, song, etc), then they will need the materials for that. During week 2, I will give a coloring page to print out. If learners do not have access to a printer, they can just draw it on a blank sheet of paper.

I worked for 3 years as a mental health counselor at an elementary school. I love teaching students about different ways to cope with their emotions, and helping them feel empowered to deal with hard emotions or situations.
