In this one time, private one on one session, your child will be assessed in a relaxed way by an experienced teacher on the foundations of reading. Testing will determine how your child is performing on important reading skills. Your child will be screened on phonemic awareness, basic syllable levels, onset~rime levels, rhyme awareness, beginning sound awareness, and basic and advanced phoneme levels. These skills are the beginning foundations of reading and building a strong reading foundation is essential to becoming a strong reader. Your child will then read a leveled book while I do a running record to determine their reading level. Using the data from the testing, I will send you a detailed message about your child's reading level, strengths and weaknesses, and reading abilities as well as some suggestions for activities to further develop a strong reading foundation. Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
