Most people have learned that CH says /ch/, but what about words like “school” and “machine?” I teach all the sounds made by the two-letter phonograms as opposed to teaching the one most common sound. Additionally, I teach them in the order they occur most often. Trying to sound out the word “chef?” Try the first sound of CH /ch/ /e/ /f/. Is that a word you know? Try the second sound of CH /k/ /e/ /f/. Does that make sense? Try the third sound of CH /sh/ e/ f/. Yes! That is a word you know...
- Students will be able to recall sounds for 21 multi-letter phonograms, apply 8 spelling rules, apply 3 silent final E rules, read with fluency and comprehension.
I have a Master of Art in Education and hold a current teaching license for grades K-6 in Virginia. I am a former elementary school teacher. In addition to teaching on OutSchool, I am a homeschool mom to a 7 year old and I provide in-person tutoring. I have taught children how to learn to read as well as to read to learn.
Assessment
