Students will improve all of the necessary elements required to become fluent in performance on the drums. Topics will range from physical technique using specific rudimental combinations for the hands and feet to strengthen coordination and control of the instrument, playing beats and grooves of a wide range of styles to develop an understanding and appreciation for the role of the drums in different types of music and to strengthen the students inner feel for the consistency of pulse that drums must provide, learning how to count and read drum notation and getting into rhythm theory to understand the subdivisions of the beat including quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes and triplets, listening to songs with an aim to learning the drum parts by ear to strengthen the ability to quickly pick up and absorb new material. Students will gain confidence and have fun becoming better drummers!

Students will be given weekly exercises that should become a regular part of their daily practice regimen. Each week students will begin with a warm up of previous exercises to demonstrate their understanding and progress on the exercise before moving on to more. Students will also be recommended various listening materials designed to expand their knowledge and inspire them to get into a diverse range of music appreciation.
