What will be taught?
Students will learn about the life, accomplishments, and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while developing nonfiction reading comprehension, critical thinking, and organizational skills. They will also engage in a creative project by assembling a biography mobile.

What topics will you cover?
Early Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
His Role in the Civil Rights Movement
Major Accomplishments (e.g., "I Have a Dream" speech, Nobel Peace Prize)
Legacy and Impact on Society

How is your class structured?
The class is structured over three days with a blend of reading, analysis, and project-based learning:

Day 1: Introduction to Martin Luther King Jr. PLUS Q&A
Day 2: Close Reading Activity
Day 3: Completing the mobile-friendly graphic organizer
Day 4: Creative mobile assembly (coloring, cutting, and assembling)

How will you teach?
Since the lessons are self-paced, students will learn through carefully designed, interactive materials that guide them step by step.

Mini Lesson: Introducing Dr. King’s biography with context and key points.

Close Reading Activity: Reading the passage and analyzing the text.

Interactive Activities: Completing a graphic organizer and assembling the mobile project.

Creative Application: Allowing time for creative self-expression through art.

What’s your teaching style?
My teaching style is interactive, supportive, and project-based. I balance structured learning with hands-on creativity. I encourage active participation, discussions, and questions while making the learning process engaging and meaningful.

How much will learners get to interact with you?

Learners will have frequent opportunities to ask questions. I encourage open communication through class forums, and real-time feedback during assignments. Active participation is key to the learning experience!

Students will have multiple interaction opportunities, including:

Q&A: Asking questions throughout the workshop.

Feedback: Receiving personalized feedback on their graphic organizers and projects.

Project Support: Getting real-time support while assembling their biography mobiles.

With over two decades of teaching experience, I’ve taught students from 4th to 8th grade in both public and private school settings. My experience has been primarily teaching reading skills across all curricula, from math to history. As a former World History teacher, focused on understanding non-fiction, informational text and as a result of observing low state testing scores in informational text overall, my primary experience with teaching has been focused on informational text instruction and teaching students how to navigate such information. By using such repetitive technique and strategy, results have determined immense growth in student performance over time.
