Teacher will check for understanding each week through informal assessments in which learners will show understanding through participation. During class on week 5, learners will be assessed on their spelling via writing in the chat, spelling aloud, or using their writing materials. Diphthongs can be a challenge for young readers! In this 5 week class, we practice integrating diphthongs [aw, au, ew, oo, oi, oy, ou, ow] into our reading, spelling and writing. Learners connect as we integrate phonics into games, matchup activities, reading, and spelling. We use a fun, interactive slideshow in which learners participate verbally and in writing to share their thinking. Come join us for integral phonics learning in a welcoming atmosphere!

To get the most out of this class, learners should be able to independently read CVC words such as cat and run, CVCE words, such as cake and bite, and know enough sight words to read simple sentences independently.
