Let's face it...most of what you have learned about Native Americans is from hundreds of years ago and not taught by Native people. In this class, you will learn about the world of modern Native American pop culture taught by a Native person. Native peoples have a whole world of our own pop culture that includes music, dance, art, acting, fashion, film making, and everything else you find in American pop culture. We are a modern people that stay connected to our traditions and cultures in an ever changing world through these art forms. 

Week 1 - We will look at modern Native fashion and art.
Week 2 - We will explore current Native music/dance and film.

I will be using slides and video clips in the classroom. No prior knowledge is needed for this class. I will encourage students to spend time outside of class looking into these current expressions of Native arts online. Since it is pop culture, there may be some mature subject matters explored through the art and music. 
I do talk about some music, films, and TV shows that may not be suitable for all viewers/listeners but are important to the topic. Parents/adults - please screen all content your student(s) may be interested in outside of class.
