課堂經歷
In this class students review what activism is and how to be an activist. Then students will put their activism skills to use coming up with solutions to some big problems. Problems discussed in this class will include the topics below. -Homelessness -Pollution/ littering -Bullying. The class utilizes discussion and some note taking as I share slides. Class will begin with introductions and expectations. Next, we define activism and discuss actions they can take. Then we practice being "Problem solvers not just problem spotters" by dreaming up solutions to these big issues. Students will have time to brainstorm and draw creative solutions. Then they will share them out with the class. We end the class by summarizing what activism is and how we can participate. I created My Voice, a student activism program for upper elementary students, in 2019. As an educator of almost a decade I know how important it is to empower students to use their voice and speak up. Through the program I encourage students to be active, vocal community members. I have run the program as an after school club as well as a summer camp.
