This Level 2 Music Theory self-paced class is great for learners looking to explore more advanced musical concepts and delve deeper into chords. Learners will get the most out of the class if they've completed my Music Theory Level 1 class or similar. They should be able to read music in both treble and bass clef, know the major scales/key signatures, and have a basic understanding of intervals. 6 lessons//6 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Review of Triads and Dominant 7th ChordsWe'll review where we left off in the previous class, going over what makes up triads and dominant 7th chords. We'll also review root position, and practice writing/identifying chords.Week 2Lesson 21st Inversion TriadsWe'll discuss what 1st inversion triads are, and how to write them in both open and closed position. We'll practice writing and identifying 1st inversion chords, as well as returning them to root position.Week 3Lesson 32nd Inversion TriadsWe'll discuss what 2nd inversion triads are, and how to write them in both open and closed position. We'll practice writing and identifying 2nd inversion chords, as well as returning them to root position.Week 4Lesson 4Dominant 7th Chords in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd InversionWe'll discuss dominant 7th chords and discuss how to write them in 3rd inversion. We'll practice writing and identifying them in root position, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position based on a given key signature.Week 5Lesson 5Introduction to Figured BassWe'll discuss how to label primary chords using basic figured bass notation.Week 6Lesson 6Major Chord ProgressionsWe'll introduce chord progressions using our primary chords in major keys.
By the end of the class, students should feel comfortable identifying primary chords in root position and inversions. They should also have a basic understanding of chord progressions, and how using inverted chords can make them sound smoother.

Assessments in this class can be used as formally or informally as students would like. Interactive questions asked throughout the lesson videos allow students to gauge their understanding of the material. The summary exercises at the end of each lesson allow students to use the information they've learned.提供的成績
Grades are offered by request at the completion of the class. Students should have completed all summary exercises before requesting a grade. Nearpod reports can also be generated for students at their request.
Learners should feel comfortable reading in bass and treble clef. They should also feel comfortable with major/minor scales and have a good understanding of intervals.

This class uses Nearpod. No accounts need to be made. Nearpod videos and activities links will be posted in the Outschool classroom.
While all course content will be provided in class, students may want to also have a copy of Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory Complete so they can follow along and have more written practice. Homework assignments will be given through Nearpod for students to complete.
