Students will practice their multiplication facts by using patterns found in multiplication and by playing games. The first 10 minutes of the class will look at patterns for specific factors within products. For the second 15 minutes, students will play a game. Games may involve printouts, which will be posted 24 hours prior to class. For the majority of the games, students will work to beat themselves (improve in some way), play as a group against the teacher, or we will all work cooperatively to beat the game. Students will not compete against each other and will be encouraged to help one another. After each class a sheet for students to practice the facts from the day will be posted. Since this course is for practice students can join at any time. Week of Sep 2: Facts of 2, 3, 4 Game: Square off Week of Sep 9: Facts of 2, 4, 6 Game: 4 in a Row Week of Sep 16: Facts of 2, 5, 7 Game: Make 20 Week of Sep 23: Facts of 3, 5, 8 Game: Tic Tac Toe Week of Sep 30: Facts of 4, 9 Game: 4 in a Row

*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think
I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.
I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.
