The learners will be taught new vocabulary words, comprehension skills, and writing skills. The class will be structured so that the learner must have read the chapters prior to the class to aid in discussion and activity completion. Each session will have a brief "hook" to start the lesson, direct instruction of the focus skills, book discussion and/or activity that relates to the focus skills, and a exit ticket. Students 

Week 1: Chapters 1- 2; Skills: Character Traits, Visualization, Cause/Effect
Week 2: Chapters 3-4; Skills: Context Clues, Summarizing 
Week 3: Chapters 5-6; Skills: Prediction vs. Inference
Week 4: Chapters 7-8; Skills: Compare & Contrast, Summarizing 
Week 5: Culminating Fun Activity 

My teaching style is to do discussion and hands-on activities that connect back to real life or have an STEM element. Learners will interact with each other through sharing and dialogue. There is no prior experience needed for this course. Learners can read the text on their own or have it read to them. Writing will be infused in the course during the summarization weeks with outside assignments.
