Kindred spirits, you are warmly invited to another rapturous "Anne" book club with Mrs. B! We will meet once a week in this 8 week course and set our sights on what happens to Anne and Gilbert! We will also meet many new characters, like the Lighthouse Keeper, Captain Jim!

** Please Note: In the first meeting, we will briefly discuss the novel "Anne of Windy Poplars(the 4th book in the series) to set the stage for our feature novel: "Anne's House of Dreams". Reading "Anne of Windy Poplars" is not required prior to this course, but perhaps encouraged for a more fulfilling experience.

We will end each meeting with a wonderful craft activity, namely, creating our own versions of Anne and Gilbert's new house! Various house design options will be discussed(digital, Lego, ceramic, cardboard, popsicle sticks, modelling clay), and everyone may choose what medium they would like to use for their "House of Dreams Craft". Creativity will be encouraged and celebrated! As in previous book clubs from the series, this craft is optional, and if learners would rather just enjoy the novel and not do the craft, that is absolutely fine.

Here is a breakdown of our meetings:

Eight Week Schedule Outline

Meeting #1: Introductions, discuss "Anne of Windy Poplars", begin reading Chapter 1 of the novel "Anne's House of Dreams", discuss options for our "House of Dreams Craft"

其他詳情

父母的引導和規範
Parents please note that there are instances in the novel of subtle racist character descriptions which were more commonplace during the time frame the book was written. It will be pointed out in class that racism in any form should never be acceptable. In addition, some of the new characters in the series have very troubling lives, including a young lady whose husband is a mean alcoholic. Parents, feel free to read the book aloud to your child if the vocabulary or reading level proves too challenging or if you want to skip over certain sections you feel your child is not ready for. Reading aloud to your child is a wonderful experience for everyone.

I am a certified teacher with over 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms. I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs with countless students. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. Perhaps most telling of all, I have been enthralled with Anne Shirley my whole life...so much so, that I went to Prince Edward Island and bought a farmhouse there!! It is a 10 minute drive from my house to the Cape Tryon Lighthouse that was the inspiration for Captain Jim's Lighthouse in the novel "Anne's House of Dreams".
