Learning Goals:
-to enjoy a short children's chapter book written by a critically acclaimed author and naturalist
-to share the joy of reading with others
-to practice small group discussion skills such as listening, responding to others respectfully, and stating opinions respectfully
-to learn about plot, setting, and character development
-to learn how to decode tricky words and read for meaning
-to practice reading small sections aloud with expression and fluency 
-to broaden geography knowledge about the Canadian prairies, a unique environment in North America

I am a certified teacher with 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms.  I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs. “Owls in the Family” has been part of my classroom literature collection for many years. Growing up on the Canadian prairies I can certainly relate and speak to the author’s unique point of view.
