In this ongoing class, students will be able to create a piece of artwork weekly. I will be discussing the elements of art as we draw and paint and I will teach basic watercolor techniques, hints, and tricks. I will first do a directed drawing and students follow along. There is so much flexibility in all of the lessons and learners can get as creative as they would like! Each student learns at their own pace, and I do everything that I can to make sure that each student feels successful. I have taught Kindergarten through 6th grade art in person and online, so I am very comfortable with the format. All learners are welcome! Everyone can create beautiful art regardless of their creative ability! The typical supplies for the lessons are white paper (thick if possible), crayons, watercolors, a water dish, and a paint brush. Week of August 6th - Draw or paint a bumble bee Week of August 13th - Draw or paint an ocean scene Week of August 20th - Draw or paint a snail Week of August 27th - Draw or paint a horse Week of September 3rd - Draw or paint an Owl Week of September 10th - Draw or paint a Sloth Week of September 17th - Draw or paint a Landscape Week of September 24th - Draw or paint a peacock Week of October 1st - Draw and paint a textured pumpkin with watercolors Week of October 8th - Draw and paint a Fall birch tree Week of October 15th - Draw and paint a crayon resist watercolor tie dye painting Week of October 22nd - Draw or paint a panda bear Week of October 29th - Draw or paint a giraffe Week of November 5th - Draw or paint an ocean scene Week of November 12th - Draw or paint a Siamese cat Week of November 19th - Draw or paint a Holiday Llama Week of November 26th - Draw or paint a Winter Polar Bear Week of December 3rd - Draw or paint a Winter Snowman

Students will improve their understanding of drawing, coloring and shading techniques, the crayon resist method, and watercolor painting techniques. They will also improve their understanding of the elements of art, specifically line, form, texture, value, and color.

Hi! My name is Jana Beckstead and I have been teaching for 21 years. I started my career teaching 3rd grade for 2 years and then moved on to teach 2nd grade for 5 years. Following that, I taught Kindergarten (5 years), 4th grade (5 years), and Kindergarten through 6th grade art (3 years). During the height of the pandemic, I taught Kindergarten through 6th grade virtually. This year I am teaching 7th and 8th grade reading and writing in middle school. I also have 5 children of my own and 2 grandchildren. My husband is in the military and we also have 4 sweet dogs and a bearded dragon named Mona.
I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies. I worked for a newspaper at that time in advertising. When my children started school, I myself went back to school and received my Post Bachelor Certification in k-8 education. I also received my Early Elementary endorsement, Structured English Immersion Endorsement, and Art Endorsement. Along with my certification, I have attended hundreds of hours of professional development in the school district that I teach in. I absolutely love teaching; it is my passion. I can't wait to share my knowledge and creative abilities with your children through the love of reading and art.評論
