課堂經歷
You’ve seen it everywhere, on cards, menu boards, and even t-shirts: it’s "hand lettering" (also known as "modern calligraphy")! In this class, I will break down the basics and demystify this art so your child can level up their creations. Practice makes progress, so I have included printable practice sheets for this class. I teach using a top-down camera so learners will be able to follow step-by-step if they choose. Participation is encouraged but never forced. I will also have a slideshow going throughout the class which will display hand lettering artworks for inspiration. A functional understanding of cursive is a *must* for your child to get the most out of this class. My teaching style is encouraging and inclusive. I create a safe space where learners are free to experiment artistically and ask questions. This is a free environment to chat and share art, or not—there is no pressure to share and there is no pressure to keep quiet, it’s all up to the learner! Tuesday: We will learn the basic strokes that make up the letters, as well as begin to put those strokes together to form many letters. Wednesday: We will continue to learn how to form the letters of the alphabet, and begin to make words. Thursday: We will complete a beautiful final project using our new skill with modern calligraphy! **I do a sliding scale payment for all of my classes. Hello there, I am Susy from The Artful Cactus, and I am so excited you’re here!
I am a maker; I love to make art of all kinds, including: bookbinding, screenprinting, painting, illustration, sculpture, pottery, sewing, knitting… my list goes on and on.
In 2009, I graduated from the University of Arizona with my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a focus on Graphic Design and Visual Communications. I had already loved art before studying it in college, but that is where I honed my skills to make art and teach others.
My goal is to teach my students with hands-on projects, so they have a finished project in their hands. I will teach them technical art concepts in a completely fun, digestible, non-judgmental way so that they feel empowered to make art. That in turn gives them the tools to express themselves and continue on to teach others.
I believe art teaches problem-solving, imagination, self confidence, technical motor skills, realistic expectations, and an appreciation for beauty found in our lives, whether man-made or in nature.
