What will be taught?
In this class, your child will learn critical resilience and self-care skills to help them manage stress, build confidence, and approach challenges with a positive mindset. Using strategies from the Build Your Bounce program, we will focus on emotional regulation, mindfulness, problem-solving, and developing self-worth. These skills are valuable in both school and personal life, helping your child thrive emotionally and socially.

What topics will you cover?
Throughout the course, we will cover the following key topics:

Self-Regulation: Techniques to recognize and manage emotions, reducing stress and anxiety.
Optimism and Positive Thinking: Tools for cultivating a positive mindset and reframing negative thoughts.
Self-Worth: Strategies for developing confidence and understanding personal strengths.
Problem-Solving: Practical steps to handle challenges effectively and find solutions.
Mindfulness and Stress Management: Activities that help children manage difficult emotions and stay calm.
Building Connections: Emphasizing the importance of healthy relationships and emotional support.
How is your class structured?
Each class is designed to be engaging and interactive, structured into four main sections:

Introduction: Brief overview of the topic, highlighting why the skill is important and how it will help the child.
Activity/Practice: Interactive exercises such as role-playing, journaling, or games that help children practice what they’ve learned.
Reflection and Discussion: Time for children to reflect on the activity, share their thoughts, and discuss any questions or challenges they encountered.
Closing: Wrap-up with a self-care tip or resilience challenge that children can apply during the week.
For longer sessions, additional activities and deeper discussions will be included to further explore each topic and allow for more interaction.

How will you teach?
I use a variety of teaching methods to make each class engaging and enjoyable. These include:

Direct Instruction: Clear explanations of each resilience skill, focusing on making complex concepts easy for children to understand.
Interactive Activities: Hands-on exercises like journaling, role-playing, and creative projects to help children apply their learning.
Mindfulness Practices: Short mindfulness exercises such as breathing techniques, meditation, or guided visualizations to help manage stress.
Games and Challenges: Fun, interactive games that reinforce key resilience skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and emotional awareness.
Visual Aids: Use of slides, illustrations, and videos to reinforce concepts and make them more memorable.
What’s your teaching style?
My teaching style is warm, patient, and encouraging. I believe in creating a supportive environment where children feel comfortable expressing themselves, asking questions, and learning at their own pace. I focus on positive reinforcement and making learning fun and meaningful through a mix of guided instruction, interactive activities, and opportunities for personal reflection.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
Students will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me during class. Here's how:

Interactive Discussions: I encourage open discussions where children can share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to each topic.
Games and Activities: Children will actively participate in games, role-playing, and creative activities, allowing for hands-on learning.
Personal Reflection: Learners will have time to reflect on their experiences, either through journaling or group sharing, and I’ll guide them in processing their thoughts.
Q&A Sessions: There will be plenty of time for children to ask questions and receive personalized feedback, fostering a two-way learning environment.
Visuals and Slides: As I explain concepts, I will use visual aids like slides, video clips, and images to enhance understanding and maintain engagement.
By ensuring an interactive, supportive, and engaging learning environment, your child will not only build resilience skills but also feel empowered to apply them in their daily lives.

I have received specialized training in building resilience and emotional well-being in children, including comprehensive instruction in the Build Your Bounce program developed by the Devereux Center for Resilient Children. This training focuses on equipping children with essential skills for managing stress, developing self-regulation, fostering optimism, and building a strong sense of self-worth—all of which are crucial components of resilience.

In addition to my formal training, I have several years of experience working directly with children in various educational and support settings. Some highlights of my experience include:

Teaching Resilience and Emotional Wellness: I have taught resilience-building programs in both one-on-one and group settings, focusing on helping children manage anxiety, build emotional strength, and develop coping strategies. This includes leading workshops for children in school settings, as well as facilitating self-care and mindfulness sessions in after-school programs.

Working with Children in Educational Environments: I have worked as a mentor and emotional wellness coach in schools, helping students with social-emotional learning (SEL) and emotional regulation. My experience spans elementary through middle school, where I’ve supported children facing various challenges, including academic stress, social difficulties, and emotional growth.

Experience in Child Development: With a background in child development, I understand the psychological and emotional milestones children experience and how these impact their ability to manage stress and face challenges. This expertise allows me to tailor resilience strategies to be age-appropriate and engaging.

Lived Experience: I’ve also drawn upon my own personal experiences and reflections as an educator to create a compassionate and understanding teaching approach. Having worked with children from diverse backgrounds, I recognize the importance of creating a safe, inclusive space where all children feel valued and supported in their emotional growth.

Overall, my training in resilience-building, combined with hands-on experience working with children in both educational and therapeutic contexts, allows me to provide a well-rounded and empathetic approach to teaching self-care and resilience. I’m committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment where children can thrive emotionally and develop the skills they need to overcome life's challenges with confidence.

In previous settings, I have:

Facilitated individual coaching sessions to help children manage stress and build self-esteem.
