18 lessons//18 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Nature of Science
Students will introduce themselves to the class and become familiar with the style of class. We will spend this week learning valuable skills that they will need to be successful in class: graphing (reading and creating) and the scientific method.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Introduction to Physical Science
What is Physical Science? Students will learn about lab safety and the methods of science and technology.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Forces and Motion Week 1
In the first week, students will explore the fundamental concepts of motion, including distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration, followed by Newton's First Law and the concept of inertia. They will then identify different types of forces, both contact and non-contact, and observe their effects on motion through hands-on experiments. The week will conclude with an exploration of Newton's Second Law, focusing on the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration. Throughout t
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Forces in Motion Week 2
In the second week, students will delve into Newton's Third Law of Motion, learning about action and reaction forces through experiments and real-life examples. They will investigate the concepts of friction and air resistance, examining how these forces affect motion. The week will also cover gravitational force and free fall, with students conducting experiments to observe gravity's impact on different objects. Finally, students will apply their knowledge to solve complex motion problems.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Energy, Work, and Simple Machines
In this week, students will explore the concepts of kinetic and potential energy, the conservation of energy, and the relationship between work and energy through interactive experiments and problem-solving activities. They will study the six types of simple machines (lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, wedge, and screw), focusing on how these machines reduce the amount of force required to perform work.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Electricity and Magnetism
In this week, students will explore the fundamentals of electricity, including electric charge, current, voltage, and resistance, and will conduct experiments to understand Ohm's Law and simple circuits. They will study magnetism, focusing on magnetic fields, the relationship between electricity and magnetism, and the principles of electromagnetism.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Waves and the Electromagnetic Spectrum Part 1
In the first week, students will delve into the fundamentals of waves, including types of waves (mechanical and electromagnetic), properties such as amplitude, wavelength, frequency, and speed, and the behavior of waves (reflection, refraction, diffraction).
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Waves and the Electromagnetic Spectrum Part 2
The second week will focus on the electromagnetic spectrum, exploring the different types of electromagnetic waves (radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays, gamma rays) and their uses in technology and everyday life. Students will engage in activities to learn about wave-particle duality, polarization, and the applications of electromagnetic waves in communication, medicine, and astronomy.
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Sound, light, mirrors, and lenses
In this week, students will explore the properties and behaviors of sound waves, including frequency, amplitude, wavelength, and the principles of reflection, refraction, and interference. They will investigate how sound travels through different mediums and the applications of sound in technology and communication.
 Week 10
Lesson 10
PHYSICS REVIEW AND MID TERM
Test your skills on everything you've learned so far!
 Week 11
Lesson 11
Matter
This week we will learn all about matter: how it's classified, what makes it up, and if it can be destroyed.
 Week 12
Lesson 12
Atoms and the Periodic Table
Elevating what we learned last week, we will begin deciphering the periodic table. We will make many models this week!
 Week 13
Lesson 13
Chemical Bonds and Equations
Now that we've learned about subatomic particles, now it's time to learn how they react with each other. Ever wonder how we are able to use methane?
 Week 14
Lesson 14
Chemical Bonds, chemical Reactions, and Equations Part 2
This is a continuation of last week.
 Week 15
Lesson 15
Solutions, Acids, and Bases
We will differentiate between different types of solutions as well as learn the differences between acids and bases.
 Week 16
Lesson 16
Thermal Energy
What's the difference between heat and temperature? Is there a difference? Let's find out together!
 Week 17
Lesson 17
Review
students will consolidate their understanding of various scientific concepts including FOR, speed, acceleration, velocity, Newton's laws of motion, momentum, work, power, simple machines, kinetic energy (KE), potential energy (PE), electricity, magnetism, light, and optics. Through interactive discussions, problem-solving exercises, and practical applications, students will reinforce their knowledge and enhance their mastery of these fundamental principles across the realms of physics.
 Week 18
Lesson 18
Review and Final Exam
This week we will return to chemistry one more time before the final!
  • Develop critical thinking and inquiry skills through hands-on labs, digital notebook activities, and collaborative discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and promoting lifelong learning in the field of physical science.
  • Explore the interplay between electricity, magnetism, and optics, as per NSTA standards, to comprehend the fundamental principles governing electromagnetic phenomena and their practical applications in technology and everyday life.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of motion, forces, and energy in the physical world, as outlined by NSTA standards, and apply these concepts to analyze and solve real-world problems.
