This is an asynchronous ELA class, therefore there will be no live meetings. It is expected to take eight weeks to complete and throughout the time, I will be available for feedback. If a student as a question, they can expect a response within a twenty-four hour period. Once I receive an assignment, I will give feedback by the following Sunday. The schedule for the course is detailed in the syllabus section. Various forms of media will be used to learn and practice reading comprehension strategies. Each week will highlight a different reading comprehension strategy, but the class structure will remain the same. There will be a instructional video followed by opportunities for students practice and demonstrate their learning. During some weeks, there may be additional content such as videos to both engage the student and help aid in their learning. One of my favorite educational quotes is "Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way." As an educator with a background in special education, I feel strongly about differentiation of learning. If your learner would benefit from a modified version of an assignment or from demonstrating their learning in a different way, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Author's Purpose
In this lesson, students will learn about the three main purposes an author may have when creating a piece of writing. We will discuss why an author may have written a particular text while touching on the topic of bias.

Making Predictions
In this lesson, students will practice making predictions both before reading and throughout. First, we will make predictions on what a book could be about, purely based on their covers. After, students will make predictions while watching a short film.

Visualizing
In this lesson, students will practice visualizing while reading. First, students will be walked through an example and then they will practice themselves.

Text Connections
In this lesson, students will practice making connections to various texts. We will discuss the three main types of text connections, text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world.
