Course Description:

This French creative writing class is designed for high school students who are already studying French and want to deepen their understanding of the language through writing.

Writing plays a crucial role in learning French. It boosts memorization, reinforces vocabulary and grammar, and supports the development of speaking, reading, and listening skills. Through writing, students can actively process and apply what they’ve learned, helping them solidify their knowledge and gain fluency in French.

Students will start by crafting simple sentences to understand sentence structure and grammar, and we'll show how these can evolve into cohesive and engaging stories. As they build confidence, we will progress to more complex sentences, integrating new vocabulary and advanced grammatical structures. Eventually, students will move on to paragraph writing, poetry, journaling, and creative storytelling. This progression ensures a strong foundation in written French while nurturing creativity and self-expression.

Each week, we will explore a different form of creative writing, including short stories, journaling, mini memoirs, and more. By engaging in these varied activities, students will improve their grammar, writing, and pronunciation, expand their vocabulary, and become more comfortable and confident expressing themselves in French.

With a small group of no more than 8 students, the class encourages active participation and collaboration. Students of all levels will be able to work together, receiving individualized support to meet their learning needs. More advanced students may request additional challenges, and everyone will have the option to resubmit corrected assignments for further refinement. This approach allows students to grow at their own pace while enhancing their creativity, spontaneity, and language proficiency.

With this structured approach, students will develop a comprehensive set of skills that will not only enhance their writing abilities but also expand their overall command of the French language. As we progress through the course, we will delve deeper into key areas such as vocabulary building, grammar mastery, creative storytelling, and effective self-expression in French.
