Students will:
--understand meaning of multiplication as the union of equal sets and observe, search, discover, and imagine objects or events that come in sets
--develop fluency with single digit multiplication facts
--use area model to provide meaning for the multiplication operation
--recognize  the role of base-ten number system in multiplication
--visualize a pattern of partial products connected to place value concepts
--use the value of each digit to break apart multiplication problem (using partial products)
--practice squaring two-digit numbers to gain fluency with  multiplication facts
--use conncetions to common algorithms for multiplicaiton to learn to multiply by 11 and 12
--use lattice multiplication
--explore patterns in a multiplication table
--apply knowledge gained to solve real world problems using any method desired

I taught full-time for sixteen years, and math is one of my favorite subjects! I excel in teaching thinking, problem solving, and pattern finding, not just teaching isolated methods that may not mean much to students.  I believe in providing for play, discussion, and materials you can hold and move in math.  I have a Masters of Special Education of Academically and Intellectually Gifted Students, and taught in a magnet school for gifted students for eight years.  This means I am an expert at challenging students, delving deep into topics, and helping those for whom math isn't their greatest strength.
