In this class, students will learn about the scientific method, conducting experiments, chemistry, engineering, and biology using Peeps candy and/or marshmallows. Any type of marshmallows will work for this class! Each week, we will have a guiding question. We will then use that question to design an experiment. Afterwards, we will use the data we collected to analyze our results. Learners will be STUCK to their seats with this SWEET class! No GOOEY minds allowed, as we will be SQUISHING a ton of information into our brains! Please join me on this sweet adventure! Assessments and grades can be provided upon request. Please reach out at least one week prior to class starting to arrange.

Parents may wish to be present as we use microwaves to heat the marshmallows (weeks 5-6), and when we use various liquids (Week 2). Students will only be asked to taste the candy in week one, but they may opt out if desired.

Every lesson, Learners will need their lab report and a pen. Lesson 1: Marshmallows (please leave them in the sealed package until class starts) 3 Zipper bags (sandwich size or larger is great!) Lesson 2: Marshmallows 5 Cups (clear is preferred) 5 different types of liquid (I will be using water, vinegar, dish soap, soda, and juice) Weights (anything that has some type of weight is great! Fishing weights, LEGOs, coins, etc) A towel for clean up may be helpful Lessons 3-4: Marshmallows Toothpicks or bamboo skewers Foil, Cloth, plastic wrap, paper towel- something found around your home to make a covering for a structure Small Book Large bowl of water (week 4) LEGO Mini Figure (optional) Lesson 5: Marshmallows Microwave Freezer/frozen ice packs/bowl of ice (anything cold that would have a freezing effect on the Peeps) Pot of boiling water, or kettle Refrigerator Microwave safe plates Lesson 6: Marshmallows Oil (any kind) Cornstarch Big bowl Microwave Potholder Tablespoon measuring spoon Many of these items can be found at home. If you don't have the exact item but you have something similar, chances are it will work. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Hello! My name is Whitney and I am so excited to have the opportunity to share my expertise with you! I have a Bachelors degree from Florida State University, and I have over 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught formally in a preschool classroom, and I currently teach ESL online. I have also taught horseback riding, rowing, canning, Sunday school, and I look forward to sharing my classroom with you!
I believe that learning should be FUN! Some times a bit messy, maybe a bit silly, but always full of smiles and laughter. I believe that we remember what we learn best when we remember the experience as a positive one. I also believe that life can be one of the greatest educators. I love to bring real life examples into my classes.
When I am not spending with my family and dogs, I enjoy teaching sewing classes, budgeting classes, science, English, art, and having a fun and educational story time for young learners. Often times, I will bring my dogs to class as teaching tools!
