What does a marine biologist even do? Can anyone be a marine biologist? Week 2: Researching Coral Reefs & the Sunlit Zone Our second day will focus on the most shallow and most researched part of the ocean-the sunlit zone. In the sunlit zone is where the majority of marine life lives. We will investigate and research coral reefs and many of the plants and animals that live in and around reefs across the globe. We will also talk about the characteristics of the sunlit zone. Week 4: Conduct an Experiment-How do Animals Stay Warm in Cold Water? On our fourth day, we will conduct an experiment to deepen our understanding of how some animals that live in cold seas can stay warm. (List of materials is provided in the Learner Supply List). Week 5: Saving and Preserving our Oceans and Marine Wildlife On our fifth day, we will discuss how to protect the ocean and the wildlife that call it home. Hi! My name is Ms. Jess. I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. My passions include teaching young learners about marine science, reading and math. I live where it's always warm so I am passionate about the ocean and the animals that live in it.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a bachelor's degree in Spanish. I am a K-6 certified teacher and have worked in the public school system for 9 years, and worked for 1 year in a private school setting. I have my ESOL (English Speakers of another Language) endorsement and have almost completed my reading endorsement. I have taught 1st grade, pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten. Currently, I am a reading interventionist for grades K-4! Just before accepting this position, I taught Kindergarten for 7 years. I have worked with many students who have an IEP and many students whose native language is something other than English. My year teaching pre-kindergarten was in a private school and I was fortunate to create the curriculum. I did this by focusing on common core and state standards, while also considering what is expected of incoming Kindergarteners.
My classroom is a warm and welcoming place where young learners thrive and time flies because we are having so much fun! I can't wait to meet you!
