Financial Literacy is one of the most important things a student can learn to prepare him/her for the future, but it is rarely included in school curriculum. Understanding how money works, why it is important to save early, and how to avoid huge financial disasters is incredibly important. During this class, students will learn about eight financial topics. The classes will be a combination of lecture, videos, worksheets, games, and activities to help them understand these sometimes-challenging topics. Studies have shown significant positive effects of financial education on both financial knowledge and behaviors. Many states and school districts are moving toward adding financial literacy into every child's education because it is such an important topic. Topics to do covered: Essential financial concepts: Understand the basics of budgeting, saving, investing, credit, and debt management. Practical skills: Learn how to create a budget, track your spending, save effectively, manage credit responsibly, and build a strong financial foundation. Real-world insights: Gain valuable knowledge from case studies, interactive activities, and engaging videos. Course format: Flexible and self-paced: Learn at your own convenience, with 45-minute weekly prerecorded videos and at home assignments you can access anytime, anywhere. Engaging learning: Combination of lectures, discussions, videos, activities, and games to keep you motivated. Weekly Homework: Apply what you learn with hands-on exercises and case studies. Final project: Showcase your understanding through a project tailored to your interests Topics covered: Week 1: Intro to Budgeting Week 2: Deep Dive into Budgeting Week 3: Types of Credit & Responsible Borrowing Week 4: Building and Maintaining Good Credit Scores Week 5: The Power of Saving Money/ Saving Versus Investing Week 6: Investing Continued Week 7: Understanding Checking & Savings Accounts Week 8: Taxes and reading a paystub At the end of the course, students will turn in a final project. They will be able to pick from one of the following options: Budget Challenge: Design and track a budget Debt Management Plan: Create a personalized plan to pay off debt and improve your credit score. Investment Final Project: Follow a stock from the day you were born until today. What can you learn from the way it has increased or decreased in value. Biography: Research and write a essay about a person who is famous for handling money well; for example, Warren Buffett or Serena Williams. This is a Self-paced version of my popular live class. Self-paced classes are asynchronous.
