課堂經歷
In this class, young learners will be gently introduced to Malayalam language through verbal interaction, song, story telling, pictures, and introducing some famous personalities and enlightening their contributions from various fields of films, writers, players etc. Students will also get to know more about Kerala (the southern most state of India), where this language is widely spoken, the traditions and culture of Kerala. I will also be sharing my first hand experience of being brought up in various parts of Kerala such as Cochin, Palakkad, Ottapalam, Trissur, Kozhikode etc and being a part of festivals like Onam and Vishu. Learners will be encouraged to interact not only with me but also their fellow classmates during class to not only practice conversing in Malayalam but also socialization skills. Class 1: • Intro to Malayalam language by introducing each other in Malayalam. • We will learn how to greet and say good bye in Malayalam. • We learn to count numbers 1-5 in Malayalam. • The first four vowels in Malayalam will be introduced and the students will be encouraged to write them. • The children will listen to a story in Malayalam told by the teacher and then the children will take turns to discuss the events, what they liked the most in the story etc. Class2: • A quick game to recapitulate the numbers and vowels taught in the previous class will be played. • We learn to describe one favorite thing (the child can bring a toy, book, dress etc). The child will be helped where ever they find difficulty in finding the correct words to express themselves. • We will learn the names of the first three days of the week in Malayalam. • We sing a famous folklore in Malayalam. Class3: • We recollect the days of the week taught in the previous class. • We learn to identify the next four vowels in Malayalam and the students will be encouraged to write them. • We learn to tell a few action words in Malayalam. • I will be showing a few colors and the children will be encouraged to name them in Malayalam. Class4: • We revise the first eight vowels, counting numbers till 5 and the first three days of the week in Malayalam taught in the previous classes. • We learn to tell the next four days of the week in Malayalam and practice to tell all 7 days in one go. • We learn to count numbers from 6-10 and then have fun guess the Malayalam numbers through an interactive game. • A few animals will be introduced to the kids and their names will be taught in Malayalam. Then kids will then be asked to come up with a story using these animals.

Learners will become familiar with conversing in Malayalam, specifically greetings, some basic vocabulary, identify and try to write the first 8 vowels of Malayalam, tell the name of the days of a week in Malayalam and counting numbers 1-10 in Malayalam.

I am a native Keralaite and my mother tongue is Malayalam and hence have a mastery over the language. Brought up in Kerala I have a good knowledge about the state's culture and heritage and thus I will able to share first hand experiences with all the students as I have been an active participant in cultural festivities and have witnessed them over the years I have stayed in various parts of Kerala.
